Meet the team
The Newark Trust is a SCIO and governed through a board of six trustees who meet every two months to consider the business of the charity.
The Trustees are supported by Claire Stone, Charity Manager, The WS Society and a sub-committee which is empowered to bring suggestions and proposals forward from the employees of McLaren Packaging.
Jennifer McLaren is The Newark Trust’s Patron, providing ongoing support and working to raise the profile of the charity.

Charity Manager
Claire manages the day to day running of The Newark Trust, building local partnerships and exploring all that is happening in the busy communities of Inverclyde.
She is passionate about developing The Newark Trust and supporting the fantastic projects and organisations working in the area.
Claire brings a background in business and law to the charity as well as a driven dedication to the area in which she grew up.
Jennifer McLaren
Patron of The Newark Trust
In her role as Patron, Jennifer supports the ongoing work of The Newark Trust and works to raise the charity’s profile.
Having previously served as a Founding Trustee, Jennifer played a key role in establishing the purpose, vision and aims of The Newark Trust and takes this experience forward into her role as Patron.
Jennifer is an Inverclyde native, who has lived here all of her life. She has been involved in charity work for over 50 years, working with local organisations like The Arts Guild, Abbeyfield and Bagatelle.
Jennifer brings a wealth of knowledge in charitable work, experience that will benefit The Newark Trust and the work it does in Inverclyde.

Nikola Miller
Chair of Trustees
Nikola brings to the Trust her professional experience as a chartered town planner with keen interest in reducing inequalities and supporting community empowerment.
Nikola grew up in Inverclyde and is honoured to be chairing the Board of Trustees in delivering on the ambitions of the Trust going forward.

Donald McLaren
Trustee
Donald was born and raised in Inverclyde and has spent much of his working life locally, running the family business alongside his brother, Michael.
Donald is a Founding Trustee of The Newark Trust and believes strongly in supporting the people and communities of Inverclyde.
He brings to the charity a wealth of business knowledge as well as a great fervour to fight hardship within Inverclyde.

Finlay Campbell
Trustee
A respected member of the Inverclyde community, Finlay is involved with numerous sporting, cultural and educational organisations. He is honoured to be part of The Newark Trust and feels the Trust’s core values and aspirations for Inverclyde align with his own.
Finlay is an experienced local teacher with a passion for outdoor education and experiential learning. He sees the creation of positive relationships and opportunities to collaborate as a hugely powerful approach to achieving successful outcomes in our community.

Michael McLaren
Trustee
Michael was born and raised in Inverclyde and works locally running the family business with his brother Donald.
He is passionate abut the area and believes in the virtue of community empowerment and the difference it can make to people’s lives.
Michael is a Founding Trustee of The Newark Trust and has a background in Marketing which he hopes will help the charity raise its profile and local impact.

Alasdair Miller
Trustee
Although he is not native of Inverclyde, Alasdair has worked in the area for many years and has become familiar with both the area and the great people who live and work here.
The opportunity for the Trust to make a real difference to people’s lives in Inverclyde is what attracted him to the role.
As a Chartered Accountant in his day job, he will be helping to keep an eye on the Trust’s finances!
